EXPERIENCES

Marta, at Huruma Childrens Home
My experience at Huruma Childrens Home was unforgettable and emotional. It enriched myself as person, in the human values. The relationship with the children gave me a lot of hope. I was impressed by their thoughtfulness and beautiful smiles despite the difficulties in their way of living. The host family was very kind, always available, sensitive and offered us hospitality, I felt like at home. I made new Kenyan friends, learnt new customs and helped their project. I met wonderful people, worked together, shared dreams and aspirations with fellow foreigners and villagers which literally changed my view of the world. I appreciate the contribution and I am going to promote these efforts. I think there is no better way to travel than through workcamps programme.

Francesca, with the Molo Red Cross
Expressing what does it means for me my experience in Kenya it is very difficult in few words. I was in a small village called Molo, near Nakuru. I lived with a nice family who took care of young people in the village. Obviously we did not have electricity, or running water or asphalt on the street, but everything was so calm, so friendly and so new. In my workcamp I had to help to French Red Cross: we took care of Hiv positive people ( but do not worry: there was no risk of contraction, we just give them medicines, blankets and some flour). The duty I loved more was organizing little performance for the children: we try, with short scenes, to make children aware from the risks of HIV. Obviously I had lot of time for trip like a tourist and for meeting new friends. You ca not imagine how beautiful is Kenya. Animals, sky, even the stars are different from Italy, my country. Children are so nice: they have nothing, but they always smile. And that is the most beautiful thing remained in my heart: the smiles of the Kenyan children.
